Union Minister Manohar Lal’s Maiden Visit to 2400 MW Tehri Power Complex: Vision for India’s Hydro Power Future

Rishikesh, 15 July 2024 – The Hon’ble Union Minister for Power and Minister for Housing & Urban Affairs, Sh. Manohar Lal, inspected the 2400 MW Tehri Power Complex in Tehri Garhwal, Uttarakhand. Accompanied by a delegation from the Ministry of Power, he was welcomed by Sh. R. K. Vishnoi, Chairman and Managing Director of THDC India Limited, along with senior officials.

During his visit, the Minister inspected the ongoing construction of the 1000 MW Tehri Pumped Storage Plant (PSP), a key renewable energy project. He reviewed several critical areas, including the Butterfly Valve Chamber, Machine Hall, and the river joining works.

The Hon’ble Minister commended the THDC team for their dedication to advancing hydropower generation, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a developed India by 2047. He highlighted the Tehri Dam as an engineering marvel and emphasized the strategic importance of hydropower in combating climate change and supporting national energy security.

Sh. R. K. Vishnoi expressed gratitude for the Minister’s visit and reaffirmed THDCIL’s commitment to renewable energy projects. The visit inspired the THDCIL team to continue their efforts in advancing India’s hydropower sector.
