Una : Library to Aid Disabled Individuals Inaugrated
2 min readUna, September 14: The National Career Service Center and Swami Vivekananda Memorial Library were inaugurated on Thursday, aimed at helping disabled individuals prepare for competitive exams. The library, established with the cooperation of the District Red Cross Society and the National Career Service Center, was inaugurated by the District Magistrate, Raghav Sharma.
The library is equipped with approximately 400 books on various subjects that will be highly beneficial for children preparing for competitive exams. Any student can visit the library and study books related to their interests. The library will also provide access to daily newspapers and magazines. Interested youths can become members of the library and benefit from its resources.
According to information, this is the first library of its kind dedicated to disabled youth in the region. It will provide books for students preparing for UPSC and other competitive exams, creating a conducive study environment in the area.
Following the inauguration of the library, the District Magistrate met with disabled children undergoing training at the National Career Service Center. Ranjan Chandkakoti, the head of the National Career Center in Una, briefed the District Magistrate on the services and facilities offered to disabled children at the center. He mentioned that the center is providing free vocational training in five trades for a duration of one year to disabled individuals aged 14 to 50, with an income of 40% or more of their disability. The training covers fields such as dressmaking, general mechanics, consumer electronics, computer applications, and automobile repairs.
Chandkakoti highlighted that the training is provided free of cost, and the participants receive a monthly scholarship of ₹2,500 for one year. There are no specific educational qualifications required for admission. Assistant Commissioner Varinder Sharma, Red Cross Society Protector Pitambar Jaswal, and officials including Upendra Singh, Shashi Kumar, Naresh Kumar, among others, were present at the event.
