UHF Nauni pays tribute to its former student

The administration, faculty, staff and students of Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry (UHF), Nauni paid tributes to its alumnus, Dr. Sunil Mamgain, who passed away in Serbia earlier this week at the age of 58. Dr. Mamgain, was a resident of Solan and had moved abroad for a professional assignment in the early 2000s. Presently he was serving as the Director at Delta Danube, Serbia.
Dr. Mamgain had completed his BSc from the College of Agriculture, Solan and later did his MSc from UHF. He got his doctorate degree from the university in the year 1990. An accomplished pomologist with skills in micro-propagation, hydroponics and mushroom growing, Dr. Mamgain specialized in growing a wide variety of horticultural crops for industrial usage. He had over three decades of experience working with agro-based and food processing industries in India and abroad.
Dr. Mamgain was very active in the alumni association of the university and an active supporter of the various research and development activities at the university. He visited the university in July this year and met University Vice-Chancellor Prof Rajeshwar Singh Chandel and discussed the development of the university and how the alumni could contribute to the progress of the institution. He was touched by the felicitation given to him during his visit during which he also met his former batchmates.
He also supported young researchers for promotion of horticulture in Himachal. He instituted and sponsored the Uma Dutt Mamgain Memorial Best Thesis award from SADHNA for MSc and PhD researchers of the university.
While paying homage to Dr. Mamgain, Prof. Chandel said that the loss of an experienced and active member of the UHF family is a big setback to the university community. The faculty and staff of the university also paid tributes to him and stand by the bereaved family in the hours of grief.
