UHF Library get 697 new books under IDP

An exhibit of 697 printed books purchased under the Institutional Development Plan of the ICAR National Agricultural Higher Education Project was dedicated to the students and staff of Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry (UHF), Nauni on Thursday by Vice-Chancellor Dr. Parvinder Kaushal. These latest publications are based on horticulture, forestry, management and allied disciplines.

The books have been procured at the cost of around Rs 10 lakh and have been kept in the University’s Satyanand Stokes Library. In addition to these books, publications worth Rs 5 lakh have also been ordered under the project to equip the students with the latest literature in their respective subjects.

The event began by unveiling a statue of Goddess Saraswati in the Library building. Librarian Dr. HR Sharma welcomed the chief guest and thanked him for upgrading the learning resources for the students. Dr. KK Raina, Principal Investigator of IDP apprised the gathering about the various activities being carried out under IDP. Informing about the activity of Enhanced Learning Resources, he said that the library is switching to modern energy-efficient lighting and LED boards.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Parvinder Kaushal congratulated all the team members of the project for taking initiatives to improve student amenities. He said that the library is one of the most important aspects of a student’s life and therefore every effort should be made to keep it up to date with all the modern learning amenities. Dr. Kaushal said that all library services should be extended to university students and faculty. He said that the university will procure a one-stop software solution for students from where they can use one login system to access all the e-services of the ICAR. Dr. Kaushal also asked the faculty to encourage the students to get themselves vaccinated to ensure that they can keep themselves safe from the virus. All the statutory officers, members of the IDP team and library staff were present on the occasion.

The SNS Library of the university is named after Satyanand Stokes, a pioneer who introduced delicious varieties of apple and heralding the economic revolution in Himachal Pradesh. The building was inaugurated by Shri R. Venkataraman, former President of India in 1988. Over the years the Library has made a repository of over 79000 books and documents and uses modern RFID system for issue and return of books. It also has National and International databases of e-books, theses, e-thesis (Krishikosh), Journals, e-journals (CeRA), and CD-ROM databases.
