Two-Story House Collapses in Niramand, Estimated Losses in Lakhs

On Monday night, an unfortunate incident occurred in Sharakoti village, where a two-story house collapsed due to land subsidence. It is estimated that the damages amount to lakhs of rupees. Moreover, neighboring houses are also at risk, raising concerns for the safety of residents. The administration has provided immediate relief to the affected family. The ongoing landslides in various regions of the Niramand Subdivision have inflicted significant damage on both government and private properties. The situation remains critical as land subsidence continues to pose a threat to the entire village.
In Darakali, the village under Taklech Up-Tehsil, heavy rains have caused substantial losses. Particularly in Sharanal village, residents are facing the fear of land subsidence, which has already devastated hundreds of apple trees and fertile land. Even the multi-story buildings in the village are now at risk due to the ongoing landslides. The local administration had declared these vulnerable buildings unsafe and evacuated them earlier. Around 9:00 PM on Monday, Rajkumar Sharma’s house succumbed to land subsidence, leaving it in ruins.
The treasured efforts of a lifetime that went into constructing the house now lie buried in the debris. Additionally, an adjacent house belonging to Sangita Sharma, situated in the Ramapur Up-Tehsil, is also in danger. The house has developed significant cracks, making it unsafe for occupation. The administration has issued directives to evacuate the unsafe buildings to prevent any loss of life or property. Consequently, many villagers are forced to leave their homes due to the constant threat of landslides.
In the Darakali Panchayat, the land subsidence has not ceased, and Sharanal village is continuously at risk. The fertile land and hundreds of apple trees owned by locals have been affected. The continuous rains have diverted water from the mountains towards the village, exacerbating the situation. Roads, which are the lifelines of the region, have also been severely damaged by the heavy rainfall, making it difficult for pedestrians to commute. The villagers are struggling to cope with these challenges as the natural water sources have also been affected by the land subsidence.
One such victim of the devastation, Chuni Lal, has already abandoned his home, and the house of Krishna Das is also now at risk. The fear of calamity looms large, forcing the residents to live in dread. Furthermore, Birchand Sani’s house in Sanee village has also suffered significant damage due to land subsidence. The Panchayat Pradhan of Darakali, Guljari Lal Sani, expresses concerns about the continuous land subsidence above Sharanal village, stating that the land is continuously shifting and causing significant damage. Under the shadow of fear, the villagers are compelled to live in distress. The house of Birchand Sani in Sanee village has become unsafe due to land subsidence, causing distress to the residents.
The situation in the region remains critical, and the residents are living in constant fear of the land subsidence that continues to threaten their lives and property.
