Shimla, 7th September 2024: The Diocese of Amritsar (DOA), Church of North India (CNI), commemorated the 135th birth anniversary of renowned Indian Christian missionary and ‘Sadhu’ Sundar Singh in a special ceremony held at St. Thomas’ School, Shimla. The event was led by Bishop Dr. P.K. Samantaroy of the Diocese of Amritsar.

This significant occasion marked the first-ever Sadhu Sundar Singh Pilgrimage, organized with the support of the Sadhu Sundar Singh Global Forum. Members of the forum, along with devotees and officials from the Diocese of Amritsar, gathered to honor the legacy of the revered missionary.

In his address, Bishop Dr. P.K. Samantaroy reflected on the spiritual connection between St. Thomas’ Church, now a school, and Sadhu Sundar Singh, who was baptized there. He remarked, “Every time I visit, I feel the presence of this holy man, his spirit and sanctity surrounding us.”

The pilgrimage, which began on 3rd September, retraces key moments from Sadhu Sundar Singh’s life, including visits to his birthplace in Rampur, Ludhiana; his house in Subathu, Himachal Pradesh; and his residence in Shimla. The journey will culminate on 7th and 8th September at Kotgarh, where the cave associated with his meditative practices is located.

In attendance were members of the diocese and principals from local schools, who joined the tribute to honor Sadhu Sundar Singh’s enduring influence on Indian Christianity.
