In a meeting chaired by Shimla Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap, it was decided that the traditional Himachali Dham will be served on leaf plates made from the leaves of the Tor tree at the President’s Retreat in Charabara. This initiative will apply to students from government schools visiting the retreat.

The meeting saw discussions between officials from the President’s Retreat and district administration on various topics. The use of Tor leaf plates, previously implemented in district temples for serving meals, was praised, and it was decided to extend this practice to the President’s Retreat. The plates will be sourced through self-help groups, benefiting the local economy.

Sanjoo Dogra, the manager of the President’s Retreat, noted that while Dham has been served on paper plates to visiting students until now, the switch to Tor leaf plates will be more environmentally friendly and easier to dispose of.

The Deputy Commissioner directed that children from child care institutions be taken on a tour of the President’s Retreat within the next 15 days. This is part of the government’s initiative to integrate orphaned children, who are considered “Children of the State,” into mainstream society.

Forest department officials identified several hazardous, dry trees near the gates of the President’s Retreat that need to be removed for public safety. The Deputy Commissioner instructed the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Shimla Rural and forest officials to expedite this task.

The meeting also addressed the installation of signage and convex mirrors on the Shimla to President’s Retreat road near Dhalli Chowk for enhanced road safety. The Deputy Commissioner directed the Public Works Department to implement these measures and to take steps to widen the road from Charabara Chowk to Gate No. 1.
