Tourism Strengthens Rural Economy: Anirudh Singh
2 min readShimla Flying Festival and Hospitality Expo 2024 continued its third day of events at The Glide-In Site near Junga, Shimla. The event saw participation from 40 para-gliding enthusiasts from across the country. Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh attended as the chief guest, while wrestling legend Dalip Singh Rana, also known as The Great Khali, was the guest of honor.
Minister Anirudh Singh highlighted the immense potential of para-gliding in the region, stating that the sport could attract international participants in the future and generate employment for local youth. He emphasized that tourism activities like para-gliding play a vital role in strengthening the rural economy and providing livelihood opportunities.
Singh also praised the state government’s efforts to promote adventure sports, similar to the success seen in Kangra’s Bir-Billing region. He encouraged the local community to engage in self-employment through traditional crafts and products, supported by the government’s efforts to market these items with improved packaging and quality standards.
The Great Khali, in his address, urged the youth to stay away from drugs and focus on sports as a profession. He highlighted the growing importance of sports worldwide and encouraged young people to pursue them with dedication.
Organizers reported that over 200 flights took place on the third day of the festival, thrilling spectators with para-gliding stunts. Additionally, an exhibition featuring local handicrafts, handlooms, and food products attracted a large number of visitors.
The festival, which has participants from across India and Nepal, aims to promote tourism, trade, and tradition (Three Ts).
Several local dignitaries, including ADC Abhishek Verma, SDM Shimla Rural Kavita Thakur, and various community leaders, were present at the event.
