Shimla, March 31: Travellers on the Kalka-Shimla National Highway (NH-5) are in for an unwelcome surprise as toll charges at the Sunwara Toll Plaza are set to increase. From April 1, an additional burden will be placed on your pockets when traveling on NH-5. However, there’s a silver lining as toll charges for cars, jeeps, vans, and light motor vehicles remain unaffected by the hike.

Annually, the toll rates at the Sunwara Toll Plaza, established by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), are increased in April. This year, the toll rates for commercial vehicles have been raised by 5 to 10 rupees. The NHAI has issued a notification regarding this hike, which will come into effect from midnight on April 1. Additionally, the cost of passes has also increased. Registered vehicles within a 20-kilometer radius will now have to pay 340 rupees.

The revised rates are as follows:
– Cars, jeeps, vans, and LMVs: Unidirectional – 70 rupees, Bidirectional – 105 rupees
– Light commercial vehicles and other unidirectional – 115 rupees, Bidirectional – 170 rupees
– Buses and trucks (two axles): Unidirectional – 240 rupees, Bidirectional – 360 rupees
– Three-axle commercial vehicles: Unidirectional – 260 rupees, Bidirectional – 390 rupees
– HCM, EMC, and AMV: Unidirectional – 375 rupees, Bidirectional – 565 rupees
– Oversized vehicles: Unidirectional – 455 rupees, Bidirectional – 685 rupees

Travelers are advised to take note of these revised toll rates before planning their journeys along NH-5.
