Thunag Tragedy: Opposition Leader Criticizes Government for Delay in Canalization
1 min readShimla: The opposition leader criticized the state government for its failure to canalize the Thunag canal even a year after the Thunag tragedy. According to Jayaram Thakur, “Despite assurances from the Chief Minister to allocate one crore for the rehabilitation of affected residents, not a single penny has been disbursed.” He further accused the government of neglecting its duty towards disaster-affected individuals.
“Necessary funds were allocated to me from the MLA fund for the canalization of Thunag,” said the opposition leader, adding that despite completing all paperwork, the government has not initiated the project yet. With the onset of monsoon, concerns arise over potential flooding due to clogged debris in the canal, impacting a large area. Residents express frustration over the government’s apathy towards canalization efforts, fearing further hardships in the event of heavy rains.
The opposition leader urged the government to prioritize public welfare and fulfill its commitments promptly to avoid any mishaps in the future.
