Shimla, May 16, 2025:
Public Works and Urban Development Minister Shri Vikramaditya Singh inaugurated a newly constructed three-storey vehicle parking facility in Tutu, a suburb of Shimla, built at a cost of ₹6.5 crore. Addressing the residents, he shared that the facility would accommodate approximately 80 to 100 vehicles, easing congestion in the area.

Highlighting the project’s significance, he credited former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh’s vision under the Smart City Mission, stating that it was during his tenure that the foundation stone was laid. Singh emphasized inclusive politics and development irrespective of religious or political lines.

Underlining government efforts to strengthen road connectivity in rural Himachal, Singh informed that Phase IV of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) aims to connect remote regions. Additionally, ₹1,600 crore is being invested in ropeway construction across various Shimla locations to improve transportation.

Addressing water issues, he noted the Gharog-Ghandal lift water supply scheme provided temporary relief during past shortages. However, he assured that the upcoming ₹1,200 crore Chaba-based Satluj Lift Water Supply Scheme, supported by the World Bank, will provide a long-term solution for Shimla, including Tutu.

Regarding sewage, Singh announced forest department approval for laying the long-pending sewer line in Tutu and Majyath. Tenders will be floated within a month. He also highlighted key allocations — ₹20 lakh for developmental works, ₹25 lakh to expand the Tutu school ground, ₹12 lakh for the Vijay Nagar Ambulance Road (plus ₹10 lakh more announced), and progress on the Primary Health Centre’s construction following NOC clearance.

Singh assured that old housing colonies like the 1974 Bangala Colony will be regularized, and further funds will be allocated if needed. Repair of damaged roads and patchwork on Tutu-Jubbarhatti road will be expedited. He announced an additional ₹10 lakh from his MLA fund for Tutu and Majyath wards.

Mayor Surender Chauhan emphasized equal development across all city wards and plans for constructing small parking lots throughout Shimla. He also referred to the proposal for a one-time settlement policy submitted to the government for urban residents’ relief.

Local councillor Monika Bhardwaj shared that 31 development works worth ₹1.6 crore are currently underway in the Tutu ward.

As part of the “Mantri Aapke Dwar” initiative, Minister Singh also listened to public grievances and ensured resolution of most issues in collaboration with officials. He stated his commitment to hold such grievance redressal programs monthly across his constituency.

The event was attended by SDM Shimla Rural Manjeet Sharma, former MLA Chiranji Lal Kashyap, Deputy Mayor Uma Kaushal, Zila Parishad members, BDC representatives, municipal councillors, PCC leaders, Youth Congress, local Congress leaders, and a large number of residents from Tutu and nearby panchayats.
