Three Girls from Shillai Secure Spot in Indian Team Women’s Kabaddi
2 min readNahan, August 26: Three daughters from the Shillai area of Himachal Pradesh’s Giri Par region have achieved a remarkable feat by securing spots in the Indian Women’s Kabaddi team for the 19th Asian Games to be held in 2023-24. Sushma Sharma from Drabil village, Ritu Negi from Sharog village, and Pushpa Rana from Millah village have collectively earned their positions in the national team, a matter of immense pride for the entire region.
These accomplished athletes from the Transgiri area have already made a name for themselves in women’s kabaddi, showcasing their exceptional skills over an extended period. Their selection is a testament to their dedication and hard work in the field.
Hailing from the picturesque Himachal region, these three young women have contributed significantly to women’s kabaddi at the national level. Their simultaneous selection in the Indian Women’s Kabaddi team, representing their own area, is a historic achievement. The entire region is brimming with joy and excitement, celebrating the accomplishment of these talented athletes.
The Ministry of Sports announced the list of women athletes for the team on Friday. Out of the 12 members selected, three girls hail from the Transgiri region in Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh. The enthusiasm among kabaddi players in the state has soared, fueled by both the team’s remarkable achievements and the athletes’ boosted confidence.
Kabaddi was introduced during the 1990 Asian Games held in Beijing, and since then, it has become an integral part of the Asian Games. The trials for the selection of the men’s team were held on July 9 at the IG Stadium in Delhi, while the trials for women took place on July 10 at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) center in Bengaluru.
Notably, the Asian Games were postponed to 2023 due to the impact of COVID-19. Ritu Negi will also lead the women’s team during the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou. The Shillai region has shown immense enthusiasm for women’s kabaddi, and this achievement will undoubtedly inspire more young girls to pursue the sport.
