THDCIL Signs Landmark MoU for Water Sports High Performance Academy in Uttarakhand
2 min readRishikesh, 09.12.2023: In a historic moment at the Uttarakhand Global Investors Summit-2023, inaugurated by Hon’ble Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi, THDC India Limited (THDCIL) signed a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on December 8, 2023. The MoU involves collaboration with the Indian Kayaking & Canoeing Association (IKCA), Uttaranchal Olympic Association (UOA), and the Department of Yuva Kalyan and Sports, Government of Uttarakhand. The signing ceremony, graced by Hon’ble Chief Minister Sh. Pushkar Singh Dhami, marks a crucial step towards establishing the THDCIL Water Sports High Performance Academy at Koteshwar, Tehri, Uttarakhand.
The MoU, signed by key representatives, outlines plans for a state-of-the-art high-performance academy with a residential facility for male and female athletes. This academy aims to elevate athlete performance through cutting-edge tools, equipment, and facilities.
Focused on training athletes for International events, including World Championships, Asian Level Championships, and Ranking Championships in Canoe Sprint, Para-Canoe, and Canoe Slalom, the academy sets ambitious goals. Hon’ble Chief Minister Sh. Pushkar Singh Dhami praised THDCIL for creating a global ecosystem that enhances sports locally and contributes to international development.
Smt. Rekha Arya, Hon’ble Minister of Sports and Youth Welfare, Uttarakhand, congratulated THDC on this historic MoU, emphasizing its positive impact on sports development. Mr. R. K. Vishnoi, Chairman and Managing Director of THDCIL, highlighted the academy’s commitment to fostering international collaboration and welcoming foreign athletes. The THDCIL Water Sports High Performance Academy aims to be a hub for talent development, providing world-class training facilities, and promoting global expertise exchange.
Mr. Vishnoi commended the Uttarakhand Global Investors Summit 2023, organized by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, and expressed THDC’s commitment to the state’s overall socio-economic development. He mentioned THDCIL’s recent signing of MoUs for five Hydro projects in Uttarakhand, totaling 1719 MW, with an estimated investment of Rs. 17,000 Crores, contributing significantly to youth employment opportunities in the state.
