Rishikesh, 25 June 2025: In a significant stride toward India’s clean energy transition, THDC India Limited (THDCIL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Government of Gujarat and Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) to supply 184.08 MW of renewable energy from the Tehri Pumped Storage Plant (PSP), India’s first Variable Speed PSP.
The agreement was formalized in the presence of Gujarat’s Finance and Energy Minister Shri Kanubhai Desai and other senior dignitaries. The project is set to play a pivotal role in meeting Gujarat’s peak electricity demands and ensuring a stable and efficient integration of renewable energy into the state grid.
CMD THDCIL, Shri R. K. Vishnoi, highlighted that this unique PSP will provide Gujarat with not only reliable green power but also crucial grid flexibility—key for managing renewable variability. The Tehri PSP represents the next generation of hydropower, enhancing both grid stability and decarbonization efforts.
This initiative aligns with the national vision of adopting pumped storage technologies to balance renewable-rich grids and support round-the-clock clean energy supply. The MoU-PPA combo marks a new chapter in the public-sector push for scalable, sustainable energy solutions.
