THDC India Limited Inks MOA for Implementation of 1200 MW Kalai-II HEP with Govt of Arunachal Pradesh
3 min readRishikesh, 31st Dec, 2023:THDC India Limited, India’s leading power generation company, has achieved a significant milestone with the successful execution of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) for the implementation of the 1200 MW Kalai-II Hydro Electric Project in the Anjaw District of Arunachal Pradesh on 30th December 2023 at New Delhi.
Sh. R. K. Vishnoi, Chairman and Managing Director, THDC India Limited informed that this project comprises of7Generating units, including 6 of 190MW and 1 of 60MW, and the estimated cost of the project stands at Rs. 13,000 Crore.
The MoA was signed by Shri Bhupender Gupta, Director (Technical) on the behalf of THDC India Limited and Shri Ankur Garg (IAS), Commissioner (Hydro) on the behalf of Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh, at Hotel Leela Palace, New Delhi on 30th Dec, 2023. The MoA was signed in the presence of Dr. H. K Paliwal,Advisor to Govt. of Arunachal, Sh. Dharmendra (IAS),Chief Secretary, Govt. of Arunachal. Shri L. P. Joshi, ED (TC& APP) , Shri Dinesh Shukla, AGM (APP) and Shri Anil Raghuwanshi, Sr. Manager (Design), THDC India Limited and other senior officials of THDC India Limited and Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh were also present during the MoA signing ceremony.
The Chief Secretary of the Government of Arunachal Pradesh, while addressing the occasion, highlighted that the development of the Kalai-II Hydro Electric Project (HEP) will serve as a catalyst for the holistic development of the Lohit basin region. The Chief Secretary emphasized that the project’s significance extends beyond meeting energy security needs and contributes to the comprehensive advancement of the region.
This strategic perspective underscores the project’s role as a transformative force, not only in addressing energy requirements but also in fostering overall socio-economic progress in the Lohit basin. The Chief Secretary’s remarks underscore the commitment to sustainable development and the positive impact the Kalai-II HEP is anticipated to have on the local communities and the region at large.
Sh. Vishnoi emphasized the historic nature of this venture, as it is the first project in the Lohit basin to be implemented by Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSUs), symbolizing a leap towards sustainable and inclusive development in the region. Situated in Anjaw District, Arunachal Pradesh, the Kalai-II Hydro Electric Project stands as a testament to THDCIL’s unwavering commitment to sustainable energy and emerges as a key driver for the Socio-Economic progress of the region.
He further informed that in contributing to the Nation’s green energy goals, the project is expected to generate 4852.95 million units (MU) annually, aligning seamlessly with the National target of increasing the share of green energy in the overall energy mix. This substantial contribution is poised to address the Nation’s future energy demand with environmentally friendly power, promoting a cleaner and more sustainable energy landscape.
Beyond its role in Power Generation, the Kalai-II Hydro Electric Project is positioned to catalyse Socio-Economic development in Arunachal Pradesh. The initiative aims to positively impact local communities by fostering economic growth, enhancing infrastructure, and elevating living standards, Sh. Vishnoi added.
