Thakur slams Sukhu Govt for ‘snatching people’s rights’

Mandi, 07 September: Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur launched a strong attack on the state government, alleging that Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s administration is depriving people of their rights and benefits instead of providing relief and facilities.

He said that the government has rolled back DA, medical reimbursements, higher grade pay, and even the right to regularisation after two years of service. Contractual employees have been turned into job trainees, while seniority benefits granted by the court are also being denied. Vacant posts remain unfilled, and outsourced workers face uncertainty.

Jai Ram Thakur added that instead of strengthening institutions, the Sukhu government has shut down more than 2,000 institutions in just two and a half years. “In the name of system change, the government is pushing the state backward rather than forward,” he said.

He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will be visiting Himachal Pradesh on 09 September to review the disaster-affected regions and chair a meeting in Dharamshala.

Earlier today, the Leader of Opposition visited disaster-hit villages in Seraj constituency, including Khunachi, Bagra Thach, and Behal Sainj, where he distributed relief material. He said that Khunachi village is slowly sinking due to continuous rainfall and landslides, affecting around 50 houses, with 12 completely destroyed. The blocked road has also left apple crops rotting in orchards, causing severe losses to farmers.

Jai Ram Thakur urged the state government to ensure early rehabilitation and adequate assistance for the affected families, while appealing to locals to remain safe during heavy rains.
