1 min read

Shimla, December 18, 2025:

Deputy Commissioner Shimla, Anupam Kashyap, announced that temporary checkposts will be set up between Shoghi and Taradevi during Christmas and New Year to ensure tourist safety, with ambulance support stationed at these points for immediate medical assistance. He was presiding over a meeting of the District Road Safety Committee.

Kashyap directed departments to update district black spot data and prepare a fresh action plan for road safety improvements. He emphasised the need to repair identified high-risk spots and instructed that faulty traffic lights across Shimla be restored to streamline vehicular movement.

The DC urged tourists, especially young drivers, to follow traffic rules, avoid overspeeding, take rest breaks, and maintain safe road distance to prevent accidents.

Associations including hotels, homestays, taxi operators and tourist guides have been asked to support the district’s road safety efforts.

Under the ‘Rahat Veer’ scheme, citizens who help transport road accident victims to hospitals within the golden hour are eligible for a cash reward of ₹25,000. The DC instructed police to identify such good samaritans for recognition and encouraged the public to help accident victims rather than record videos.

All government and private hospitals, along with police stations, will display information on good samaritan protection and cashless treatment facilities.
