Una, January 30, 2026: Una district is making rapid progress towards becoming tuberculosis-free, with the Health Department setting a target to declare 215 gram panchayats TB-free by 2026. The campaign is being strengthened through advanced diagnostic facilities, expanded screening, free treatment, nutrition support and strong community participation.

Chief Medical Officer Dr Sanjeev Verma said TB testing has increased significantly over the years. From just 655 tests per lakh population in 2015, Una has surpassed its target by achieving 5,063 tests per lakh population in 2025. In 2024, over 29,000 suspected cases were screened, identifying 802 TB patients, while in 2025 so far more than 31,000 screenings have been conducted with 530 confirmed cases.

Five hospitals in the district are equipped with modern diagnostic technology, and over 81,000 X-rays were conducted in 2025 alone. Due to exceptional performance in high-risk population screening, Una district received two Gold Medals at the state level.

So far, 105 panchayats have been declared TB-free, while the process is underway to recognise 163 more in 2025. Awareness campaigns, Nikshey Shivirs, and IEC initiatives have been carried out extensively across schools, villages and health centres.

Under the Nikshey Poshan Yojana, TB patients receive ₹1,000 per month as nutritional support, while severely affected patients get an additional ₹1,500 under the Chief Minister’s TB Prevention Scheme. Several organisations and institutions are contributing as Nikshey Mitras by supporting patients with nutrition assistance.

Deputy Commissioner Una Jatin Lal said the district administration is implementing the TB elimination programme with full seriousness, focusing on early detection, continuous monitoring and timely support. He emphasised that TB elimination is a collective responsibility requiring cooperation from health departments, NGOs and the public.
