Swan Women Federation Sends 500 School Kits to Flood-Affected Children in Mandi

Deputy Commissioner Jatin Lal flags off relief vehicle from Una

Una, August 8: In a heartfelt gesture of solidarity, the Swan Women Federation, North India’s largest women’s organization, dispatched a relief vehicle carrying 500 school kits for children affected by recent floods in Mandi district. The vehicle was flagged off from Una by Deputy Commissioner Jatin Lal on Friday morning.

Speaking on the occasion, DC Jatin Lal commended Una district’s consistent efforts to support disaster-hit regions and appreciated the Swan Women Federation for its humanitarian commitment and outstanding work in women empowerment. He noted that the federation has demonstrated exemplary social responsibility in times of crisis.

Subhadra Rani, Chairperson of the federation, informed that the organization has formed 1,015 self-help groups (SHGs) across 112 panchayats in Una district, connecting over 15,000 rural women. Around 100 new SHGs are added every year.

Vice Chairperson Meenu Rana highlighted the SHGs’ involvement in income generation activities, agriculture, spice processing, animal husbandry, de-addiction campaigns, and micro-savings schemes. The federation also operates a women’s cooperative society with a working capital of about ₹18 crore, and has disbursed loans worth over ₹1.4 crore at concessional interest rates.

The relief kits for flood-hit schoolchildren include a school bag, six notebooks, pens, and pencils.

Present at the event were Federation CEO Dr. R.K. Dogra, advisors Satish Sharma and Rajesh Sharma, and executive officer Ritu Sharma.
