Sustainable Employment Opportunities for Youth in Solar Energy Sector- R.S. Bali

Dharamshala, October 5th, 2023* – Cabinet-rank Chairman of the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation, R.S. Bali, has emphasized the vast potential for youth employment in the field of solar energy. The state government is committed to promoting solar energy production and aims to create employment opportunities for the youth while ensuring clean energy consumption.
The initiative not only aims at harnessing clean energy but also endeavors to provide self-employment opportunities for the youth of the state.
Mr. Bali stated that the state government is offering special incentives to encourage youth to establish solar energy projects. Under this scheme, the government will purchase electricity generated from these solar energy projects for the next 25 years, thus ensuring a stable source of income for the youth.
He further explained that the state government is providing a 40% subsidy to establish solar energy projects with a capacity ranging from 250 kilowatts to 2 megawatts on their own land. This subsidy has made it feasible and financially viable for young entrepreneurs to set up renewable energy ventures.
Mr. Bali also shared that Himachal Pradesh has set a goal to become a green energy state by March 31, 2026. To achieve this objective, the government is diversifying its energy sources. Besides tapping into the available hydroelectric capacity, the government is actively promoting the optimal utilization of solar energy resources. In line with this, the government has set an ambitious target to initiate new solar energy projects with a combined capacity of 500 megawatts in the financial year 2023-24.
He stressed that the promotion of renewable energy not only contributes to environmental conservation but also creates economic development and employment opportunities. This initiative positions Himachal Pradesh as a leading state in embracing clean energy.
