2 min read

Sissu, January 15: In response to the ongoing festivities and to ensure that tourist activities do not disrupt the tranquility during the Halda and Purnima festivals, the picturesque tourism destination of Sissu has been temporarily closed for 45 days starting Monday. This decision aims to avoid any disturbances caused by tourist-related events during these cultural celebrations.

The local Panchayat wrote a letter to the district administration to address the potential noise and commotion caused by tourist activities during the Halda and Purnima festivals. Consequently, on Monday, the Lahaul police set up barriers near Sissu, restricting access to the Sissu Lake and Heliport areas. Tourists will no longer be permitted to travel towards Sissu and Nurpur from January 15 to February 28.

During this period, hotels and homestays in the region will remain closed. Rajiv, the Panchayat Pradhan of Sissu, stated that tourists can still enjoy snow-related activities in the Dimpuk, Ramthang, and Kokser villages under the Kokser Panchayat. Pradeep, the Deputy Pradhan of the Kokser Panchayat, mentioned that adventurous activities would continue in the Kokser Panchayat, such as snow sports until the snowfall season concludes.

Rahul Kumar, the Deputy Commissioner of Lahaul-Spiti, confirmed that the Sissu Panchayat had written a letter to the district administration, and considering the religious significance of the festivals, a temporary restriction has been imposed on the vocal activities of tourists in the Sissu, Sissu Heliport, and Nurpur areas from January 15 to January 28. Police have been deployed in the region to enforce these restrictions.

This temporary suspension of tourism activities in Sissu reflects a thoughtful approach to balancing cultural and religious sentiments with the environmental and social well-being of the region. The decision ensures that the festivities proceed smoothly without compromising the serenity of the destination.
