Former CM slams “dictatorial” attitude, accuses government of corruption and misuse of power

Mandi, October 7 — Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur launched a scathing attack on the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu government, accusing it of “vindictive politics” and “dictatorial behaviour.” Speaking at a press conference in Mandi, he said, “The Sukhu government is now filing FIRs even against schoolgirls for merely complaining about not getting food at a government event.”

He alleged that the Chief Minister was acting at the behest of “petty leaders” and that anyone who questions the government is either sent to jail or harassed through official machinery. “Reporters face FIRs, opposition leaders are targeted, and social media is being misused to run smear campaigns against critics,” he added.

Thakur said, “The Chief Minister is ruining his credibility by forcing officers into wrongdoing. Such authoritarianism never ends well. Officers must remember that every decision will be reviewed one day.”

He also criticized the government for halting the reconstruction of a road destroyed in a disaster, despite High Court orders, noting that “three people remain buried there, yet the government shows no empathy.”

The BJP leader further accused the Congress government of embezzling disaster relief funds, claiming that out of ₹5,500 crore sent by the Centre, only ₹300 crore reached victims. “The rest remains unaccounted for,” he said.

He also pointed out that most key administrative positions in the state are being run by acting officials, reflecting administrative paralysis. “This is not a people’s government — it’s a government of friends and officiating officers,” he remarked.
