Sukhu Criticizes BJP Government for Neglecting Freedom Fighters’ Families During Amrit Mahotsav Celebrations

During a legislative session on Saturday, Congress MLA Sanjay Rattan raised questions about the Amrit Mahotsav celebrations. He stated that the previous BJP government spent 6.93 crore rupees on the program but neglected the families of freedom fighters. He emphasized that the Amrit Mahotsav program should not be turned into a political event and that the families of freedom fighters should have been invited to such events. The previous government rushed these programs as they were during the election season.

In response, Chief Minister Sukhviner Singh Sukhu said that when similar programs are held in the future, all families of freedom fighters will be invited, and the Congress government will honor them. He clarified that the Loktantra Prahari Bill was meant for those who had not done anything for the country. The bill was canceled as soon as they came into power. He stated that this should not be misinterpreted, and the respect for the families of those who sacrificed for the country’s freedom should be upheld.

A heated exchange ensued in the assembly, with opposition members protesting Sukhu’s remarks. Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania urged everyone to refrain from giving sudden reactions and advised them to learn from one another.

He suggested that people in politics should not let their actions be seen as mere reactions to incidents, emphasizing the importance of abiding by the rules and regulations of the assembly.
