Former CM targets Congress government during Chamba rally
Chamba, April 10, 2025: Former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition Jairam Thakur launched a scathing attack on the Himachal Pradesh Congress government, branding it as a “fee-collecting government” instead of a public-serving one. Addressing a public rally in Bhatiyat during his Chamba district visit, Thakur alleged that Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s administration has lost touch with the people and is more focused on levying charges rather than delivering governance.
He criticized the imposition of charges on basic public services, from toilets to hospital slips, and lamented the discontinuation of popular outreach programs like Janmanch. “After the infamous ‘wild rooster incident’ during a jungle party in Kupvi, the Chief Minister seems to have abandoned all public engagement,” he remarked.
Jairam further accused the government of burdening the public with multiple taxes and rolling back the BJP-led government’s welfare initiatives. “Be it electricity, water, diesel, or even land—taxes are being increased. Where we gave women half-price bus fare, now even stepping into a bus costs Rs. 10,” he claimed.
On governance, Thakur alleged that the Congress regime is more preoccupied with political vendettas and surveillance on BJP MLAs than development. He also highlighted the closure of 2,000 institutions opened by the previous BJP government and the termination of 10,000 outsourced employees.
Praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Thakur emphasized India’s rise as the world’s fifth-largest economy, soon to be third, and contrasted it with what he termed as Congress’s “directionless” politics. “Today, under Modi ji, India is progressing, while Congress is struggling to find its relevance,” he said.
He concluded with a strong warning to officers and leaders engaging in malpractice and assured BJP workers that the party will continue to raise public issues and fight for the people.
