Hamirpur, 6 February: The four-day National Holi Festival in Sujanpur will take place from March 12 to 15 at the historic Chaugan ground. The organizing committee has begun preparations for the event. Deputy Commissioner and chairman of the organizing committee, Amarjeet Singh, reviewed the arrangements with district and sub-divisional officials in a meeting at Hamir Bhawan on Thursday.
Singh informed that, as in previous years, the festival will feature four cultural evenings, with one continuing until midnight and the other three until 10 p.m. The focus will be on showcasing local Himachali artists. The festival will start with a grand procession and a prayer ceremony at the historic Murlimanohar Temple, in keeping with tradition.
To ensure the event’s smooth organization, SDM Sujanpur will be appointed as the mela officer, and ASP Hamirpur as the mela police officer. Various sub-committees will be set up to manage arrangements related to cultural programs, sports activities, publications, and hospitality.
The festival will also include departmental exhibitions, stalls from self-help groups and other organizations. Interested parties can apply for stalls by March 4 at the SDM office in Sujanpur. Sports competitions will also be held during the festival, with a sub-committee headed by the SP, ensuring inclusion of more sports and special arrangements for women’s participation.
The Deputy Commissioner has instructed officials to complete cleaning, repairs, and beautification work at key locations, including Chaugan, Murlimanohar Temple, and other historic sites in Sujanpur, before the festival. Directions have also been issued for ensuring electricity, water, sanitation, and fire safety at the venue.
