Strict Action Warned for Compromising Food Quality During Diwali in Shimla

Shimla, 21 October 2024 — District Magistrate Anupam Kashyap has instructed officials to ensure the availability and quality of food items in Shimla ahead of Diwali. Shopkeepers have been urged to maintain food standards, with a warning of strict legal action under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, for violations. Penalties of up to ₹5 lakh and imprisonment of up to six months can be imposed for selling harmful or unsafe food. Random inspections will be conducted, and those overpricing items will also face penalties.
