Strict Action Against Illegal Mining in Chamba

860 Challans, ₹30 Lakh Fine Collected in 2024
Chamba, February 26: The district administration and police in Chamba have intensified their crackdown on illegal mining, collecting fines amounting to ₹30,08,950 from 860 challans in 2024, according to Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repaswal. He affirmed that strict action will continue in 2025 to curb illegal mining activities.
In 2024,
- Police Department issued 703 challans, collecting ₹21,67,150
- Mining Department issued 74 challans, collecting ₹8,41,800
Subdivision-wise action in 2024:
- Chamba: 238 challans, ₹11,32,850 fine
- Dalhousie: 135 challans, ₹3,45,900 fine
- Salooni: 196 challans, ₹4,70,900 fine
- Pangi & Bharmour: 134 challans, ₹2,17,500 fine
2025 (Till Now):
- 92 challans, ₹3,00,700 fine collected
- Chamba: 32 challans, ₹1,15,300 fine
- Dalhousie: 26 challans, ₹1,08,700 fine
- Salooni: 33 challans, ₹75,700 fine
- Pangi & Bharmour: 1 challan, ₹1,000 fine
DC Repaswal emphasized that illegal mining poses a severe environmental threat and is a punishable offense. He urged public cooperation in reporting illegal mining to protect Chamba’s rivers, particularly the sacred Ravi River, from irreversible ecological damage.
