Statewide crackdown on chitta traffickers continues

In accordance with the zero-tolerance and comprehensive offensive against chitta announced by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu during the Anti-Chitta campaigns held at Shimla on November 15, Dharamshala on 1st December and at Hamirpur on 16th December, the Himachal Pradesh Police carried out a coordinated and targeted statewide operation on Saturday.

A spokesperson of the Police department said that under the PIT-NDPS Act, three notorious chitta traffickers were detained from the districts of Baddi, Kullu and Sirmaur. With this the total number of detentions has reached 65 sending a clear message that there is no safe haven for drug traffickers in Himachal Pradesh. Besides preventive detentions, parallel financial investigations are being pursued vigorously, resulting in the seizure of illegal assets worth Rs.48 crore so far, he said.

It may be recalled that on 6th December, the State witnessed a historic and synchronized operation in which 16 chitta traffickers were detained under the PIT-NDPS Act across multiple districts in a single day.

Earlier, on 2nd December, the 6th State-Level NCORD meeting was held at Tapovan, Dharamshala, under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister. During the meeting, all ongoing anti-chitta operations were reviewed in detail and clear directions were issued to intensify the campaign and transform it into a statewide people’s movement to eliminate drug menace from the State.

He stated that an appeal has also been made to the people by the Chief Minister urging citizens, particularly the youth, to immediately share any information related to chitta or any other narcotic substance by dialing 112 or by contacting the nearest police station. He assured that the identity of the informer would be kept strictly confidential.
