A meeting of the State Level Scheme Sanctioning committee constituted under the aegis of the State Water and Sanitation Mission, Himachal Pradesh was held in Shimla on Monday, July 24th. As per the directions and guidance of Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Mukesh Agnihotri, the agenda regarding damages of drinking water schemes due to heavy rains in the state and its restoration was discussed in the meeting.
SLSCC demanded flexi funds for the repair and restoration of the schemes being constructed under Jal Jeevan Mission. These funds can be used to undertake mitigation/restoration activities in case of natural calamities.The Deputy Chief Minister said that due to the heavy calamity in the state, there has been a huge loss Rs. 512 crore in 559 schemes being constructed under Jal Jeevan Mission. He urged the GoI to accord approval of Rs. 150 crore under flexi funds for restoration and repair of schemes at the earliest possible to restore the schemes to ensure adequate drinking water supply.
In order to mitigate the decrease in the underground water level in the state, 45 schemes of direct ground water recharge worth Rs 452.60 crore were sent to GoI for approval. A total of 976 other schemes will also be benefitted directly or indirectly from these schemes and will also help in increasing the underground water level.
The department has prepared the proposal for anti-freeze water supply schemes with the help of modern technologies to ensure drinking water supply in the snowbound tribal areas throughout the year even in minus degree temperature. For this a proposal of 4 pilot schemes worth Rs. 34.2 crore has been sent for approval of GoI. After the success of these pilot schemes, this project will be expanded in other areas tribal and snowbound as well.
The meeting was chaired by Amitabh Awasthi, Secretary, Jal Shakti Vibhag Himachal Pradesh. Meeting was attended by Engineer-in-Chief Er. Sanjeev Kaul, Zonal Chief Engineers of Jal Shakti Vibhag, Chief Engineer (Design & Monitoring), Chief Engineer-cum-Director State Water and Sanitation Mission Himachal Pradesh and officers of JSV including officers of the other allied departments. Representative of GoI and officials of other departments also attended the meeting in online mode.
