State Excise Department seizes 20,500 litres of illicit liquor at different places in Sirmaur district
1 min readThe State Tax and Excise Department, continuing its action against illegal liquor, seized about 20,500 litres of liquor and 115 boxes of English liquor and beer.
Excise Commissioner Dr. Yunus said that a team constituted for the purpose in Sirmaur, seized 7000 litres, 4000 litres and 9500 litres of Lahan (country liquor) at different places and also in the dense forests of Toka-Nagla on Wednesday where this liquor was being prepared near a drain in the dense forests.
Besides, on Wednesday night a district team of the Excise Department, Mandi also seized 115 boxes of English liquor and beer which were meant for sale in Chandigarh.
Apart from this, silver jewellery worth Rs 3.33 lakh found without valid bills/documents was seized in Shimla and a fine of Rs. 20,000 has been imposed. He said that till date, the department has seized unbilled jewellery worth about Rs. 23 crore and has taken action under the GST Act and seized and destroyed about 87000 bulk litres of illicit liquor. The department has ensured zero tolerance in the cases of illicit liquor and tax evasion.
