St. Thomas’ School Celebrates Independence Day with Inter-House Folk Dance Competition
1 min readIn celebration of India’s 78th Independence Day, St. Thomas’ School, Shimla, hosted a vibrant Inter-House Folk Dance competition on 14th August 2024. Students from the four houses—Chinar, Shipkila, Kasturi, and Toshqui—participated, bringing to life the rich cultural heritage of various regions across India.
The event was judged by Poonam Sharma, a well-known classical dancer, alongside Rachita Rathore and Vikram, Pinegrove’s dance teacher. The competition featured a range of traditional dances, with Shipkila House presenting Western Indian dances like Ghoomar and Kalbelia, and Kasturi House highlighting South Indian forms such as Thappattam and Yakshagana. Chinar House showcased folk dances from North India, including Punjabi Gidda and Himachali Ludi, while Toshqui House impressed with Eastern Indian dances like Bihu and Manipuri Cheraw.
Kasturi House emerged as the winner, followed by Toshqui House in second place. The event was a colorful celebration of India’s diverse traditions, ending with words of encouragement and blessings from the Principal and judges.
