Sports Can Lead Fight Against Drugs, Says Shimla Deputy Commissioner

Shimla, November 10, 2025: Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap, in a meeting with various sports associations, said that increasing sports activities is the most effective way to protect youth from drug abuse. He urged the associations to actively participate in the state-level Anti-Chitta Walkathon on November 15 in Shimla and to invite renowned athletes to inspire students. All players have been asked to attend in full sports kits.

He instructed sports bodies to prepare a plan for organizing a “Sports Mela,” assuring full administrative support. Schools have been urged to treat sports as a regular activity and keep their playgrounds open for students in the morning and evening, as well as for sports associations. The DC also suggested establishing open-air gyms in city parks and asked for the early submission of the proposed cycling-track report.
