Solan, October 7: The Solan Police in Himachal Pradesh have achieved a major breakthrough in combating drug trafficking, particularly in the case of illicit narcotics such as “chitta” (a potent form of heroin). A special team of police officers has successfully apprehended one of the accused involved in cross-border drug trafficking near the Atari-Wagah border.
During surveillance conducted on September 25 as part of efforts to monitor drug traffickers, it was discovered that a student named Daksh Thakur, who was studying at Shoolini University, was involved in the procurement and distribution of “chitta.” Daksh Thakur, who hails from Una, Himachal Pradesh, was found in possession of 12 grams of “chitta.”
The accused, Daksh Thakur, a 23-year-old student pursuing an M. Pharma degree at Shoolini University, was arrested and taken into police custody for five days. During the investigation, the police also inquired about his supplier, which led to the revelation that he had been in contact with Mangal Singh, a 33-year-old drug trafficker residing in the Atari tehsil of Amritsar, Punjab. Mangal Singh had been involved in the continuous trafficking of heroin in Himachal Pradesh, particularly in Una, Mandi, and Solan.
The Solan Police conducted a highly professional operation to monitor the activities of Mangal Singh, who was residing near the Indo-Pak border, approximately 6 kilometers from the border. Mangal Singh had been involved in trafficking heroin from Pakistan into India using drones. A special team was formed to apprehend the accused, and he was arrested near the Atari border and brought to Solan.
Mangal Singh is currently in police custody for 13 days and will be presented in court. The police are also investigating other drug traffickers in Himachal Pradesh who are part of Mangal Singh’s network. Superintendent of Police Gaurav Singh stated that in the past three months, 32 suppliers from other states, including Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, have been arrested. This includes four Nigerian nationals of African origin. The crackdown on these external suppliers has disrupted the six major drug trafficking networks operating in Himachal Pradesh.
This significant success by the Solan Police underscores their commitment to combating drug trafficking and ensuring the safety and well-being of the state’s residents.
