Six of Twelve Festival Sweet Samples Fail Quality Test in Solan
1 min readSolan, Nov 19: A major quality lapse has come to light regarding sweets sold during the Diwali season in Solan and nearby areas. Out of 12 samples tested at the Kandaghat food lab, 6 sweets have failed quality standards, raising serious health concerns.
Shockingly, a famous sweet shop from Lower Bazaar, Shimla, has had its Pineapple Coconut Barfi declared unsafe for consumption. The sample was collected from a shop in Slogra. Other failed samples include Milk Cake, Malai Peda, Khoya, and Khoya Apple sweets. Two samples from within the Municipal Corporation area and four from other regions of the district also failed.
The Food Safety Department has issued show-cause notices under Section 44(4) to all shopkeepers whose samples failed, giving them one month to respond. Additional Commissioner (Food Safety) Dr. Atul Kayastha confirmed that more reports are awaited from the total of 80 samples collected during the festive season, out of which around 2.5 quintals of substandard sweets were destroyed on the spot.
