Sirmour Police’s Vigilant Efforts Result in Significant Crackdown on Narcotics Mafia and Revenue Growth
2 min readNahan, September 14: In the year 2023, under the leadership of SP Sirmour, Raman Kumar Meena, the crackdown on narcotics mafias has intensified, leading to a substantial increase in government revenue. It is said that just as the head of a household should be honest and dutiful, so should his subordinates be in delivering performance.
In comparison to 2022, Sirmour police have done an exceptional job in every sector in 2023. Particularly, they have achieved remarkable success in cases filed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, with a 56.25% increase in successful cases. On Friday, at the SP office, Police Chief Raman Kumar Meena presented comparative figures for 2022 and up to September 2023, demonstrating that officers are actively engaged in the battle against narcotics.
Whereas in 2022, there were 64 cases filed under the NDPS Act, this year, that number has surged to 100 cases. Additionally, the quantity of charas (cannabis resin) seized has increased from 8 kilograms 728 grams in 2022 to 12 kilograms 579 grams up to September 2023. Heroin cases have witnessed a 75% increase, with 222 grams seized in 2022 compared to 231.543 grams this year. Similarly, there is a 13.59% increase in ganja (marijuana) cases.
Significant recoveries have also been made in the cases related to opium poppy husk. While there were no cases recorded in 2022, this year, the police have destroyed 3579 opium poppy plants, leading to the registration of cases in this regard.
The crackdown on the liquor mafia has also been robust, with a 44.7% increase in cases filed under the Excise Act. While there were 114 cases in 2022, there have been 165 cases registered so far this year. Furthermore, 25% more cases have been filed under the Gambling Act, along with the recovery of INR 3.31 lakh in fines. Last year, there were 76 gambling act cases compared to 2023’s 101 cases.
The police have also shown reduced road accidents, with 19% fewer cases and a 16% decrease in mortality rates. In 2022, there were 179 cases of road accidents compared to 145 cases recorded this year. There has been a significant increase in cases filed under the Mining Act, with the police seizing 36 JCBs, including 13 JCBs being confiscated from illegal mining operations.
Moreover, the police have set records in destroying opium poppy plants. In 2022, there were no such cases, while this year, they have destroyed 3579 opium poppy plants, resulting in cases being filed in this regard.
In his statement, SP Raman Kumar Meena mentioned that this campaign will continue in the same vein.
SP Raman Kumar Meena praised DSP Headquarters Ramakant Thakur, expressing confidence that his tenure will lead to a reduction in the crime graph. He lauded Thakur’s excellent work during his tenure in Paonta Sahib. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of giving necessary directions to DSP Headquarters Ramakant Thakur to rectify the traffic situation in Nahan. ASP Somdatt was also present at the event.
