Sirmaur DC bans private hill-cutting and construction till Sept 30 to curb disaster risks

Deputy Commissioner and DDMA Chairperson Sirmaur, Priyanka Verma, has ordered a ban on private hill-cutting and construction activities across the district till September 30, 2025, under Sections 33 and 34 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005. Only essential works related to disaster mitigation, restoration of damaged infrastructure, and key utilities like water, power, and emergency services are exempt. The order follows widespread landslides and soil erosion caused by heavy rains, which damaged public and private infrastructure. Officials and executing agencies have been directed to ensure strict compliance, with violations attracting legal action.
