Prof. Shyam Singh Chandel, Professor of Eminence and Director, Centre of Excellence in Energy Science and Technology (CEEST) at Shoolini University, was honoured at the country’s first-ever Research Enclave of the World’s Top 2 per cent Scientists, as ranked by Stanford University, USA, and Elsevier.
The event witnessed the convergence of 25 eminent scientists from across India, all globally recognised for their career-long contributions to research and innovation.
Prof. Chandel, who has consistently featured among the top 2 per cent scientists globally in the Energy and Sustainability domain for four consecutive years (2020–2024), was honoured by Mr. Arpit Agrawal, Vice Chairman, and Prof. Victor Gambhir, Vice Chancellor, JECRC University, Jaipur.
During the event, participating scientists engaged in insightful deliberations, shared their pioneering research journeys, and emphasised the importance of collaborative knowledge-building.
Prof. Chandel, while addressing the gathering, called for a stronger national focus on renewable energy technologies—including solar, wind, hydrogen, and hydropower—to curb greenhouse gas emissions and accelerate sustainability efforts. He stressed the need to strengthen the existing 32 energy centres in India and advocated for the establishment of dedicated Centres of Energy Science and Technology Research in every institution.
The conclave concluded with a landmark resolution to draft a White Paper and Action Plan, incorporating key recommendations to promote research, foster institutional collaboration, and inspire the next generation of scientists.
Prof. Chandel carries over 45 years of experience in energy, innovation, and development. He is the former founder Head of the Centre for Energy and Environmental Engineering at NIT Hamirpur, former Dean of Engineering and Technology at Shoolini University, and has served with various national and state-level institutions including MNRE, DST, MHRD, and the National Institute of Solar Energy. With over 120 research publications and 6 patents, Prof. Chandel continues to be a leading voice in India’s clean energy movement.
