Shimla’s Ladies Park – Drug Hub For Youth
2 min readShimla, Dec. 24 – Ritanjali Hastir
With the Christmas and New year’s celebration at its peak, city’s Ladies park is witnessing a massive footfall from school students. It’s heart breaking that youth has taken the meaning of fun in park to a different level as they are seen smoking behind the public toilet.
“Parents feel that child is away to school or tuition but unfortunately the can be seen sitting in the sun and smoking. Number of times complaints have been made but only a temporary solution is provided”, shares a lady that comes to attend stitching classes.
On the other hand a visually impaired person who is appointed in park says, “we are physically blind but authorities or parents are playing blind on purpose something beyond my understanding. If nothing else atleast maintain the dignity of Rani Jhansi, on who’s name park has been named and avoid such activities.”
To one’s surprise there is no gurd appointed to maintain discipline even though the park is maintained by Shimla Municipal corporation.
Commenting on the issue Ashish Kohli commissioner MC said, “the park is being renovated and once it is complete proper guard will be appointed. Currently there is Mali appointed in the park for maintenance.”
Ladies park in olden days was meant for females and young children but in current times the interesting question here is that what exactly are boys above the age of 18 doing in the park apart from setting wrong example and promoting smoking for young children.
Will the concerned authorities ever take note before it’s too late this is something that only time can tell.
