Ghora Chowki to Global Cinema
Shimla, Feb 26 2026: Emerging actor Abhishek Kaushal, a proud son of Shimla’s Ghora Chowki, is steadily carving a niche for himself in Indian cinema with his powerful role in filmmaker Anubhav Sinha’s film Assi. His journey from local theatre stages to national recognition reflects a story of persistence, creativity, and small-town ambition transforming into artistic success.
Educated at St. Mary’s School, Shimla, and later completing his senior secondary studies at DAV Lakkar Bazaar, Abhishek initially pursued engineering, earning a B.Tech degree in Electronics and Communication from GGS College under PTU. Despite a technical background, his passion for performing arts drew him toward theatre, where his artistic identity began to take shape.
Abhishek started acting in 2013 at Shimla’s iconic Gaiety Theatre, collaborating with local theatre groups such as KBDS Rangmanch, The Beginners, and The Platform Society. Beyond acting, he also explored music direction and singing for theatre productions and contributed to documenting Himachal’s cultural heritage through a documentary on the Fagli festival.
A graduate of the National School of Drama (NSD), New Delhi, from the 2023 batch, Abhishek’s dedication to craft opened doors in the entertainment industry, including a notable appearance in Pataal Lok Season 2. Now based in Mumbai, he continues to balance cinema, theatre, and music, carrying with him the cultural roots of Himachal Pradesh.
His journey stands as an inspiring example for young artists from small towns, proving that strong foundations in local culture and consistent dedication can pave the way to national platforms. With Assi bringing him into the spotlight, Abhishek Kaushal represents a new generation of performers bridging regional identity with contemporary storytelling.
