1 min read

Parwanoo, August 14 – Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur, speaking at an event marking Partition Horrors Remembrance Day in Parwanoo, called the Partition of India “the greatest tragedy in the history of humanity.” He held the Congress leadership of the time responsible for allowing the birth of Pakistan on religious lines, leading to the displacement of over 15 million people and the deaths of 1.5–2 million in communal violence.

Thakur commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the bold decision in 2021 to formally commemorate August 14 as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, stressing that the day serves as a tribute to the victims and a reminder to prevent such tragedies in the future. He said Partition not only divided the land but also tore apart India’s cultural fabric, leaving wounds that can never fully heal.

The event was attended by former minister Dr. Rajeev Saizal, former MLA K.L. Thakur, Lakhwinder Rana, Paramjit Pammi, Daisy Thakur, and other BJP leaders and workers.
