Shimla Winter Carnival Kicks Off with Spectacular Opening, Hundreds Participate

Shimla, December 25 -The inaugural edition of the Shimla Winter Carnival witnessed a grand commencement with enthusiastic participation from hundreds of people. The Winter Carnival was officially inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Sukhvinder Singh Sukkhu.

On this occasion, cultural groups from various districts and the NCC Patiala showcased a cultural parade with traditional attire and musical instruments, which the Chief Minister flagged off with a green flag. Following this, around 450 Anganwadi workers and women from self-help groups organized a grand Nati performance, inaugurated by the Chief Minister releasing balloons into the air.

Cultural Presentations Delight the Audience

On the stage set up at Ridge Ground, artists presented a series of cultural performances that captivated the audience. Performances included the Kullu Nati from Kullu district, the energetic dance from Kangra district, and the Singhthu dance from Sirmaur district. The Bhangra and Kalbelia dance performances by artists from NCC Patiala were also highly praised.

Theater Festival and Cultural Presentations at Gaiety Theater

At the Gaiety Theater, a play based on the life of Lord Jesus Christ was staged as part of the Theater Festival. Additionally, the district Shimla Nati was presented at the amphitheater. Near the Police Control Room, the Home Guards Band provided musical entertainment. Around the Rotary Club area, artists enthralled the audience with melodious tunes from musical instruments.

Activities for Children, Traditional Attire, and Products Displayed

In Rani Jhansi Park, numerous swings were set up for children, providing them with much joy. Exhibitions were organized from Daulat Singh Park to Gaiety Theater, showcasing traditional attire and products. About 50 stalls displayed traditional clothing, products crafted by self-help groups, and various items from different organizations. Tourists and locals alike enjoyed extensive shopping at these stalls.

EVM/VVPAT Stall at Shimla Winter Carnival

The Election Department set up a stall at the Shimla Winter Carnival, providing information about Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Various government departments also set up stalls, offering information about departmental schemes and services.

The Shimla Winter Carnival is expected to continue with diverse cultural and entertainment events, providing a festive atmosphere for both residents and tourists.
