Shimla, December 18, 2025:
Ahead of National Polio Immunisation Day on December 21, Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap chaired a meeting of the District Task Force, announcing that 57,010 children aged 0–5 years will be administered oral polio vaccine across Shimla district.

A total of 743 vaccination booths will operate across all blocks, with mopping-up rounds scheduled from December 22 to 24 to ensure no child is missed. The DC said maintaining India’s polio-free status is a national priority, especially as polio cases continue to be reported in neighbouring countries. Entry points to the district will also have awareness and vaccination booths.

Kashyap directed departments to ensure 100% coverage, particularly in slum areas, construction sites, bus stands, and other high-movement zones. He also announced that schools will soon launch awareness campaigns on hygiene and disease prevention.

Officials cautioned that polio spreads through contaminated food, water, and contact with infected stool, stressing strict hygiene practices. India has been polio-free since 2014, and Himachal’s last case was reported in Solan in 2009.
