Shimla RTO Seizes Bus for Major Violations

Shimla, Jan 14, 2026 : Under a special enforcement drive to ensure passenger safety and strict compliance of transport rules, the RTO Shimla office led by RTO Vish Mohan Dev Chauhan seized a bus (HP-63A-1964) for serious violations. The vehicle has been impounded and kept at the HRTC workshop until further orders.

During inspection, officials found that the bus was operating without a valid fitness certificate and permit. The driver also failed to produce a valid driving licence and registration certificate (RC). Additionally, Special Road Tax dues were pending and the bus was reportedly operating outside its permitted route.

The action was taken under Section 207 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, read with provisions of Section 16(2), which prohibits operation of vehicles in public places without valid fitness certification.

RTO Chauhan stated that such violations pose a serious threat to passenger safety and will not be tolerated. The RTO office also said enforcement drives will continue and urged the public to report unsafe or undocumented vehicles.
