Shimla, December 15, 2025:

The Shimla district administration has announced a 15-day special campaign to relocate all stray cattle roaming along roadsides to nearby Gau Sadans by January 1, 2026. Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap said livestock is a valuable heritage and should not be abandoned.

A recent survey identified 272 stray cattle across the district. With existing Gau Sadans having capacity for about 3,500 animals, the administration plans to shift all identified cattle at the earliest. The DC appealed to owners to take back abandoned animals, warning of risks such as road accidents and animal deaths during winter.

The Deputy Commissioner will hold a video conference with all SDMs and urban local bodies to ensure effective implementation. Patwaris and Panchayat Secretaries have been directed to immediately report stray cattle in their areas, failing which action will be taken.
