Shimla, May 28, 2024 – Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Shashi Tharoor accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of dividing the country along religious and caste lines. Speaking at a press conference in Shimla, Tharoor claimed that the INDIA Alliance is set to form the government on June 4, 2024, reflecting the public’s desire for change.

Tharoor criticized PM Modi for failing to fulfill the promises made to the nation in 2014. “Modi promised millions of jobs annually, but unemployment is at an all-time high. He vowed to double farmers’ income, but farmers are still protesting for their rights. Inflation is soaring, yet PM Modi avoids addressing these issues and instead focuses on dividing the country,” he stated.

Tharoor assured that upon coming to power, the Congress would deliver social justice. He emphasized the party’s commitment to the five pillars of justice outlined in their manifesto: participatory justice, farmer justice, women’s justice, youth justice, and worker justice, alongside 25 guarantees aimed at empowering and enriching the nation.

He highlighted the positive response to the Congress and the INDIA Alliance in the current elections, forecasting significant gains in states like Haryana, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Kerala, and Telangana. Tharoor noted that the BJP’s support has significantly waned compared to the previous majority they held.

Tharoor also announced that the INDIA Alliance government would amend the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) to prevent unjust incarcerations and ensure timely justice. He expressed concern that PM Modi’s actions are threatening Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s constitution.

Criticizing the BJP and RSS, Tharoor mentioned that their internal support is dwindling. He accused PM Modi of misleading the public on issues like OBC reservation and highlighted Modi’s attempts to undermine the fundamental rights of citizens.

Tharoor called on PM Modi to present a report card of his ten-year tenure, focusing on job creation for youth and security for women. He urged citizens to vote and protect democracy, dismissing fears related to EVM tampering.

Tharoor’s remarks aim to consolidate support for the INDIA Alliance as they approach the final days before the election, positioning them as the harbingers of a new era of governance focused on justice and development.
