Session on equality and acceptance for LGBTQ organised at Shoolini univ

Solan, July 15 – A virtual session was organised by Shades of Love Club at Shoolini University with Devika Mangal Mukhi, India’s first transgender kathak dancer and women’s rights activist, as the guest of honour.

The session was about equality and acceptance by the society for Transgenders, Bisexuals , Gays, and Lesbians . Shades of Love Club at Shoolini University works to spread awareness and inclusivity about Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Community (LGBTQ).

Vice Chancellor Prof. Atul Khosla said “Universities should have a system to keep questioning what society contradicts. We at Shoolini university offer an environment for debate that is absolutely phenomenal and would continue addressing other issues like caste, religion, diversity etc”. Mrs. Saroj Khosla, President, Shoolini University was also present in the session.

Devika Mangal Mukhi talked about cultural diversity, discrimination, bullying they face, their struggle and the stigma held by the society.

Devika said that” Education is the biggest weapon” and as long as you are equipped with education, you can achieve everything, she further adds that she wants to open a school for trans, where they’ll groom themselves. She had also spoken to Union Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal and they have promised to help them. Devika also wants to hold an international transgender festival, where trans people from different parts of the world will come together and exchange ideas, culture, and dance forms.

The session successfully ended up with conclusion remarks by Ms. Poonam Nanda Dean Students Welfare and she said we need to change our thinking to accept everybody with respect in society.
