Chamba, Himachal Pradesh: Women associated with Self-Help Groups (SHGs) like Monika Sharma and Bina Mehra have shared that their handmade products are gaining popularity not only across various fairs and exhibitions in Himachal Pradesh but also at Him Ira Shops, tourist spots, and national-level events outside the state. Supported by the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM), these women are becoming self-reliant and empowered.
Mission Executive Priya from NRLM, Block Development Office, Mehla, stated that the mission focuses on empowering rural women by encouraging and training them in various entrepreneurial activities. The initiative aims to help them live a dignified life through financial independence. Under NRLM, SHGs receive Rs. 40,000 each—Rs. 15,000 for purchasing machinery and the remaining amount for procuring raw materials.
She also highlighted that most food products made by SHGs use locally produced organic ingredients, making them healthier and more nutritious than many branded products. As a result, the demand for these SHG-made goods is steadily increasing.
