2 min read

The selection of families displaced by the Renuka Ji Dam project in Himachal Pradesh has been announced in the first phase. Sumit Khimta, the Deputy Commissioner, released the notification and made the list public. A total of 97 families associated with the project have been categorized as homeless. There were initially 103 objections raised against this categorization, but six families could not be included in the list for various reasons. These objections are currently under reconsideration.

Out of the 97 homeless families, the highest number belongs to Sangrah Panchayat with 32 families, followed by Parada with 18, Lanabhalta with 12, Sair Tandula and Gavahi Panchayats with 10 each, Deed Bagad with eight, Kathli Bharan with three, and Baunla Kakog and Rajana Panchayats with two families each. All these families have been included in the first list of the homeless.

From September 25th to October 9th, the list will be available for public inspection at Tehsil offices, Development Block offices, Panchayats, and Revenue Circles. During this period, any claims and objections related to these families will also be entertained. After this period, no claims or objections will be accepted.

Project Director Arke Chaudhary explained that the District Magistrate has publicly released the first phase list of families displaced by the Renuka Ji Dam project. It includes 97 families, while the remaining families are under review. It’s worth noting that as per the notification, out of the proposed 1408 families affected by the Renuka Ji Dam project, 1362 main project-affected families have been declared.

A review meeting between the dam project management and the affected families will be held on September 29th in the Cew village. During this meeting, detailed discussions and deliberations will take place on issues related to the project’s rehabilitation and resettlement plan (R&R plan) and the concerns of the affected families.
