Shimla, Jan 02, 2026: Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur expressed grief over the death of Kangra student Pallavi and demanded a fair, impartial, and high-level inquiry into the case. He alleged repeated lapses by the police and administration and urged the Chief Minister to take cognisance, stating that the matter concerns justice for a young woman and all facts must come out.
Thakur also criticised the state’s healthcare system, calling it “critical” and citing incidents of inadequate medical facilities and absence of doctors at primary health centres, which he said amounts to playing with people’s health rights. He blamed the state government for neglect and said citizens are paying the price of administrative failure.
Commenting on the economy, Thakur said India becoming the world’s fourth largest economy after surpassing Japan is a result of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visionary economic policies. He credited initiatives such as Make in India, Digital India, Startup India and infrastructure-led growth for strengthening the economy and expressed confidence that India will soon achieve the $5 trillion economy target.
