Shimla, July 23: Scrub typhus has made a return in the capital city, with one confirmed case reported among eight suspected samples sent for testing on Wednesday. The confirmation was made by Dr. Rahul Rao, Medical Superintendent of IGMC Shimla.

The infected patient is a 32-year-old woman from Shimla who was under treatment for fever and related symptoms. Upon confirmation, treatment as per medical protocol has been initiated, and her condition is currently stable.

Scrub typhus cases in Himachal Pradesh typically rise during the monsoon season. The disease is caused by parasitic bacteria transmitted to humans through bites from infected mites found in bushes or tall grass. Early symptoms resemble common fever but can turn severe or even fatal if left untreated.

The Health Department has urged the public to avoid dense vegetation, keep their bodies covered, and seek immediate medical attention if symptoms like fever, rashes, or sores appear.
